Privacy Policy
Last Updated: April 2026
Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Gomegle collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website and services.
1. Data Controller & Legal Basis for Processing
For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable data protection laws, Gomegle acts as the Data Controller. We process your data based on the following legal grounds:
- Legitimate Interest: To ensure the security of our platform, prevent abuse, block banned users, and maintain essential functionality (e.g., processing IP addresses).
- Performance of a Contract: To connect you with other users and provide the services outlined in our Terms of Service.
2. Information We Collect
Because Gomegle is designed for anonymous chatting, we limit the information we collect:
- Technical Information: We automatically collect standard internet log information, such as your IP address, browser type, and operating system. This is necessary for the proper functioning and security of the site. To establish peer-to-peer connections, your IP address may also be shared with third-party connection servers as a technical requirement of the WebRTC standard.
- Chat Activity: Gomegle uses WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) technology. Video, audio, and text chats travel directly between users (peer-to-peer) and are never transmitted through or stored on our servers. Our signaling server facilitates only the initial connection setup by exchanging technical negotiation messages and does not have access to chat content. When a direct peer-to-peer connection cannot be established, traffic may be relayed through a third-party relay server. If a user is reported, a snapshot image captured by the reporting user's browser is uploaded to cloud storage for manual review.
- Cookies: We use cookies or similar local storage to save your preferences and improve your experience.
3. How We Use Information
We use the collected information to:
- Operate, maintain, and provide the features of Gomegle.
- Identify and prevent malicious activities, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.
- Monitor and analyze usage trends and enhance user experience.
4. Sharing Your Information
We respect your privacy and do not sell your data. We may only disclose your information:
- If required to do so by law, or in response to a valid legal request (e.g., subpoena, court order).
- To protect the safety, rights, or property of Gomegle, our users, or the public.
5. Data Retention
Any technical data or logs we maintain for security and anti-abuse purposes are kept only as long as necessary. If a user is banned for violating our terms, we may retain their IP address to enforce the ban.
6. Third-Party Services & International Transfers
We rely on third-party service providers for infrastructure and hosting, WebRTC connection facilitation (STUN/TURN servers), and cloud storage of reported content. These providers may have access to technical information such as IP addresses as a result of providing their services. They are bound by data processing agreements to protect your data. Where providers are located outside the European Economic Area (EEA), we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with GDPR, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. Your Data Protection Rights (GDPR)
Under the GDPR, you have specific rights regarding your personal data. While we collect minimal information and do not link technical data to identifiable accounts, you maintain the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the limited technical data we hold about you.
- Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): Request that we delete your data (e.g., removing an IP address from our logs, subject to legal and security constraints).
- Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Restrict or Object: Object to or request restriction of certain processing activities.
- Lodge a Complaint: File a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority (e.g., the Danish Data Protection Agency).
You also have choices regarding cookies. You can choose to disable cookies through your browser settings, though some features of Gomegle may not function properly without them.
8. Children's Privacy
Gomegle is strictly for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If we become aware that a minor has provided us with personal information, we will take immediate steps to delete such data.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will indicate any updates by changing the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the service constitutes agreement to the updated policy.
